Grow Stronger

Counselling

When something doesn’t feel right, it can start to affect everything. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or not quite yourself. It could be anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, or simply a sense that things aren’t working the way they used to.

SOMETHING NOT FEELING QUITE RIGHT?

You might be noticing that things aren’t sitting the way they used to. It could be anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship struggles, or just a sense that you’re not coping as well as you normally would.

At times it can feel overwhelming, draining, or hard to make sense of.

“If that’s where things are — you’re not alone. You don’t have to stay stuck in this, it can change.”

HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP

Counselling gives you a space to slow things down and work through what’s really going on.

When we work together we’ll get to the heart of what’s driving things, make sense of your thoughts and emotions, and start shifting the patterns that are keeping you stuck. You’ll leave with practical ways to cope and respond differently — not just insight, but real tools you can use.

This isn’t just about talking—it’s about creating real movement in your life.

WHAT SESSIONS LOOK LIKE

My approach is warm, practical, and grounded. I won’t just sit back and nod — sessions are an active, collaborative space where we slow things down and look at what’s really going on.

Together we’ll explore what’s underneath the surface, make sense of your thoughts and emotions, and start building practical tools you can use between sessions.

We’ll move at a pace that works for you, focusing on what matters most.

“Everything you need to know before getting started”

What is counselling and how can it help?

Counselling provides a safe, supportive space to explore what’s going on, understand your thoughts and emotions, and develop practical ways forward.

A good friend listens and cares — but counselling goes further. I’m trained to help you understand what’s driving things beneath the surface, identify patterns, and develop practical tools for change. Sessions are confidential, structured, and focused entirely on you. There’s no social dynamic, no advice based on personal opinion, and no risk of the conversation affecting your relationship.

The terms are often used interchangeably and there’s significant overlap. In New Zealand, counselling typically refers to professional, structured support that helps you work through challenges, understand patterns, and develop practical ways forward. It’s evidence-based, relational, and focused on real change — not just talking.

Not at all. Many people come to counselling when something doesn’t feel right or they want support, clarity or personal growth.

I work with a range of counselling areas including anxiety and panic, anger, stress, depression and low mood, burnout and overwhelm, overthinking, emotional regulation, self-doubt and confidence, addictions, pornography addiction, grief and bereavement, communication and conflict, relationship difficulties, and marriage and couples work.

The first session is relaxed and conversational. We’ll talk about what’s brought you in, what you’re hoping to get from our work together, and a bit about how I work. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with — we go at your pace. By the end we’ll have a clearer sense of where things are and whether working together feels like a good fit and in most cases progress towards your goals.

It varies depending on what you’re working through. Many people notice a shift in perspective or a sense of relief within the first few sessions — just having a space to be heard and make sense of things can be powerful. Deeper change usually unfolds over time, but you won’t be left waiting for something to happen. We’ll be working practically from the start.

Weekly sessions work well when you’re in the middle of something difficult — it maintains momentum and gives you consistent support. As things settle, fortnightly is common. We’ll work out a rhythm that suits your situation and what you’re working through.

I offer a brief phone call before booking so you can get a feel for whether this is the right fit — no commitment required. Use the Talk First button to get in touch and we’ll arrange a time.

Both — and that’s intentional. I won’t just sit and nod. Sessions are active and collaborative. I’ll listen carefully, ask good questions, and help you make sense of what’s going on. When it’s useful I’ll offer a perspective, a reframe, or a practical tool. The goal isn’t just to feel heard — it’s to understand what’s going on and actually move forward.

That’s completely okay — and honestly, it’s often part of the process. Sessions are a safe space and there’s no pressure to hold it together. If something comes up emotionally, we’ll work with it rather than around it. You won’t be left feeling worse than when you arrived.

Yes. I offer both individual and couples counselling. If you’d like to bring your partner to a session, or transition from individual to couples work, just let me know and we can talk through how that might work.

My practice focuses on adults and older teenagers. If you’re looking for support for a younger child, I’m happy to point you toward appropriate services.

Absolutely. You’re welcome to mix in-person and online sessions depending on what works for you week to week. Just let me know before the session and we’ll make it work.

That’s completely okay. Life happens and circumstances change. Just give me as much notice as you can and we can either pause and pick up when you’re ready, or wrap up in a way that feels complete. There are no lock-in contracts.

The only time confidence would be broken is in the event that harm could occur to you or others. This would be discussed with you first though.
